These Maps Show the Best and Worst Airports for Holiday Travel

No comments :

The winter holidays are a notoriously bad time for travel. No matter where you fly from, you’re practically guaranteed to be faced with sky-high ticket prices, long lines, and frustrating delays. Some airports are worse than others though.

Elite Fixtures looked at holiday flight data from the past five years and locked down the best and worst American airports for the last two weeks of December—including Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

If you’ve ever considered scrapping the usual cozy (but stressful) family get-together for a tropical holiday vacay, this might be one more reason. With a mere 12 percent of flights delayed around the holidays, Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport fared the best in late December. Those who did need to deal with a delay there weren’t so lucky, though, needing to wait an extra hour on average. If the price is what worries you, learn the best day to book a Christmas flight

On the other hand, those flying out of Houston by way of William P. Hobby Airport might want to load a few extra movies on their phones. About 42 percent of flights from there were delayed for an average of 46 minutes, and 1.3 percent were canceled entirely. Two other Texas airports, Dallas Love Field and Dallas/Fort Worth, were also among the top 10 worst airports, sitting at number five and 10, respectively. (Flying from any of these 10 worst airports? These holiday travel tips will keep you sane.)

Baltimore/Washington International Airport was found to be the eighth worst in terms of delays (34 percent chance of delay and 2.2 percent chance of cancellation), but Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport was the third best (20 percent chance of delay and 1.4 percent chance of cancellation), so those traveling around the D.C. area might be better off flying from Reagan.

If you’re more worried about prices than delays, find out the cheapest and most expensive airports in America.
